Bisions Win 3-2 against Silver Birch A

After a week off due to an unfit pitch the Bisons were back in action away at Silver Birch A. Despite a notoriously difficult pitch both sides did their best to put on an entertaining game. The home side had the best of the early exchanges and the Bisons were finding it difficult to get any momentum and Harry was called into action early on saving to his left. The Bison’s first opportunity fell to Duncan who fired over the bar having latched on to a loose ball after the defender lost control on the bobbly pitch. Silver Birch took the lead in fine fashion with a splendid strike from outside of the box which gave Harry little chance. As the home side went searching for the second goal the Bisons were finding a bit of space and after a nice passing movement the ball fell to Ben whose shot whistled narrowly past the post. This was then followed with a shot from Owen but his effort lacked power but the signs were encouraging. When the equaliser came it was a beauty. Tom had not played since early November and had come on into midfield when he picked up a bouncing ball some 25 yards out, controlled it and then volleyed it into the corner of the net. The goal seemed to knock Silver Birch out of their stride as they realised they had a game on their hands but that said the next chance fell to them and only a great save by Harry low to his left kept the scores level at half time.

The Bisons nearly took the lead with the best move of the game. An interchange of quick passing on the left between Owen and Harvey saw Owen deliver a peach of a cross which was met superbly by Dylan but his goal bound header was deflected away for a corner by the defender who really knew nothing about it. With Kev slotting into right back Ben moved forward into a wing position and when Dylan found himself in space he played a slide rule pass beyond the defender allowing Ben to use his pace and with only the keeper to beat he buried his shot into the far corner to make it 2-1. Dylan then had a chance with a volley that he struck well enough but too close to the keeper. Silver Birch throughout the game were causing problems with their corners and long throws but the Bisons were defending resolutely and so it was disappointing when the equaliser came from a corner that was bundled in at the fast post. The goal sparked the home side into life and Harry again had to be called into action with another one handed save to keep the scores level. Hearts skipped a beat not long later when a through ball was met by the attacker and with Harry off his line the goal bound effort was surely going to make it 3-2 but Kev, who was now playing at left back, managed to get back and clear it. Duncan then had a chance to snatch victory after a super ball by Dylan but he couldn’t keep his effort down. With time running out the ever willing Owen picked up the ball wide on the left, cut inside and on the angle of the penalty area unleashed a shot high into the top of the net with the keeper routed to his spot and only able to watch what was the winning goal. A superb performance by the Bisons and all three goals worthy of goal of the month.
