Bracknell Bisons F.C. are 3 weeks into the Men's season. Check out what their Coach had to say.
As we move into October after having played three matches I see many positives even though the two league games resulted in a 0-1 loss to Silver Birch A followed by 2- 3 defeat at the hands of Bracknell Saint-Germain. In the first match we more than competed and in the second half had a number of chances to equalise even hitting the bar in the closing stages. Playing in a higher division with a number of new faces is a challenge but the boys have started well. The second game was always going to be tough due to non-availability and injuries, which meant we only had 11 on the day. It was a fantastic effort with great resilience and spirit but goals from Tom and Kevin weren't quite enough. So to our most recent match, away to Silver Birch 1st in the Sunday (Berks and Bucks) cup at the Morgan Recreation Ground in Crowthorne. As pitches go this must be the worst in the league and certainly not conducive to playing crisp one touch football as invariably the ball will bobble and it did ! For much of the first half both teams struggled with the conditions although Duncan had a couple of chances running through on goal but the keeper made decent saves. When the first goal came it was a scrappy affair with Dylan getting the final touch but overall a well deserved lead. The second half was a one sided affair as quality, fitness and commitment prevailed with Owen netting the second after a fine solo run and finish. Considering the state of the pitch the build up play for the third was total football starting from the defence and then a pass through to Ben whose pace took him beyond the defender and he buried the ball into the far corner. The fourth goal resulted from a masterclass in team management as Kev was brought on and within seconds planted the ball into the back of the net. A resounding 5-0 victory over the Division 2 side was sealed by Ben with his second of the game. Whilst the glory goes to the goal scorers a special mention for the defence with a well earned clean sheet, a couple of important saves by Harry at key moments and a new back line with Elliot replacing the injured Jack in the middle. Good to see Charlie getting some game time as he continues to find his fitness but a worrying knee injury sustained by Duncan in the closing minutes. Great result, great team effort and every player contributing to a thoroughly deserved win. More cup action next Sunday in the Junior Cup as the Bisons face Spartan 1st who have started well in Division four.
Training continues on a Tuesday evening in Sandhurst under Elliot’s excellent tutelage with confidence on a high but with no room for complacency. Rewards come from hard work and perhaps a little bit of luck.
